Lucy's story

I was with my husband for 30 years, and we had been separated for two years. He takes strong medication for health reasons, and [sigh], I really believe he was putting this in my tea. We have a son with special needs who lives with his him, so he would collect me from my house to help, and I believe he was drugging me, and I was knocked out.

One day, I woke up in the car to him punching me in the head while he was driving. It was constant. His driving must have shown at times that he didn’t have full control. The journey lasted over an hour, and he had full control over me. He physically assaulted me and made me fear for my life. I was terrified that if I fought back, he would crash the car.

His driving was a way to physically assault me without witnesses. He also used driving as a form of coercion, offering to take me to see our son. This situation not only put my life at risk but also could have impacted other road users.
