Jayne's story

I was referred to a support agency after he strangled me whist he was driving – he grabbed me by the head and hair while my daughter was in the car. She tried to poke him n the eye and face to stop him.

He proceeded to grab me out of the car, pinning me to the ground and took my daughter from me. I only got her back once he had been arrested.

A few weeks prior to this, he took me in the car to a field and said, "only one of us is going to leave".

He often drove erratically and at speed, telling me "If you tell them anything bad about me, you won't get away with it" – referring to police and support services.

I mean it all escalated when he showed up at the house where me and my daughter were. He became quite aggressive, he physically attacked me [crying], dragged me through a prickly bush. I was covered in bruises and scratches. He was shouting that he was coming for our daughter. He put her in the car, and I jumped in too. He locked the door, did a U turn in the road, and said "I’ve had enough of this, I’m killing you" - this was in front of our daughter.

I texted my little sister asking for help, that I was with him, my phone then died and I didn't get the response.

He pulled over and was screaming at me to get out of the car, he grabbed me by the head and screamed "get out now and I’ll kill you now or let me get all my daughter’s stuff and I will raise her, and you will never see her, and don’t contact us.’

I was pleading for him to stop and told him to take her home, trying to calm him down. He got back in the car started to drive away from the bus stop and the police pulled in behind them. My sister must have called the police and told them that I was in trouble, and was with him, she also had a picture of his car, from a few years ago, which she described to the police.

He was arrested and remanded for various offences.
